The First Day of DIY

Long post today…

It was a busy day yesterday! I barely got everything unpacked from my kit when I decided to delve into the world of essential oil DIY.

I got several of the “beauty” items from my list made, as I didn’t even want to use my store-bought ones for another day. I have already been doing the “No-Poo” method of washing my hair; using baking soda and water as shampoo and apple cider vinegar as conditioner. I left the baking soda mixture as-is, but decided to add some lavender to my conditioner for some fragrance, as well as to support a healthy scalp (no pictures of this one).

First up were toothpaste and mouthwash, both of these came from a combination of recipes. The toothpaste is just coconut oil and baking soda mixed together until the desired consistency with some Thieves and peppermint oil added for fresh breath. The mouthwash is just water, Thieves, and peppermint oil.

Next up was body/face butter. I stopped using my moisturizer when I was pregnant due to the salicylic acid in it, and never replaced it with anything. My skin isn’t horribly dry, but it certainly does better with some added moisture. I used the recipe which can be found here. I also made her face lotion bars to use at night, which can be found here. These are both the perfect accompaniment to the oil cleansing, using sweet almond oil, that I started recently

I then proceeded to make some homemade deodorant. Two batches actually. I made one delicious smelling peppermint batch, and then remembered that peppermint oil can decrease breast milk production. So I melted it out of my jar and started over. I used I combination of this and this recipe. I didn’t have arrowroot powder, only corn starch, so that’s what I went with.

Last, but certainly not least, I couldn’t forget the little man in my life. I whipped up a batch of multi-purpose lavender cream for him that I can use as a diaper cream, sleep cream, or intensive lotion (just to name a few uses). It is just 2 TBSP of coconut oil with 2 drops of lavender EO. It doesn’t sound like much, but for someone his size it’s enough! It may just be a coincidence, but we used this last night and he slept for 5 or 6 hours before he woke up needing fed.

That’s all the diy that I got done yesterday, not too bad for working around the schedule of a teething 5 month old.

I almost forgot! The back-ordered portion of my kit arrived!
